Privacy policy
Effective October 28, 2026
This policy explains what personal information Plainly Picks (plainlypicks.com) collects, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. Plainly Picks is published by Room to Reason ("we", "us"). If you have questions, email hello@plainlypicks.com.
Information we collect
Information collected automatically when you visit. Like most websites, our hosting provider records technical information when you load a page, such as your IP address (your device's internet address), browser type, device type, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and the date and time.
Cookies and similar technologies. We may use advertising and measurement tools, including the Meta Pixel from Meta Platforms, Inc. These tools use cookies or similar code to record that you visited a page or clicked a link, so we can measure whether our ads work and show ads to people who have visited our site. They may collect your IP address, browser and device details, and cookie identifiers. We do not load these tools if you have opted out (see below).
Affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link, you leave our site. The company you visit, or its affiliate network, may set its own cookies to credit the referral to us. Their privacy policies apply on their sites.
Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
We do not ask for or knowingly collect sensitive personal information, such as government ID numbers, financial account details or health information.
How we use information
- To run, secure and fix the website
- To understand which pages are useful and improve our guides
- To measure and improve our advertising, including showing ads to people who visited our site
- To reply to your messages and handle privacy requests
- To comply with the law
How we share information
- Service providers that help us run the site, such as our web host (Netlify) and email provider. They may use the information only to provide their service to us.
- Advertising partners, such as Meta, when advertising tools are active and you have not opted out. Under California law, this may count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising (ads based on your activity across different websites).
- Legal and safety reasons, when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell personal information for money. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
Your choices
- Opt out of advertising tracking on our Your privacy choices page.
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, a setting that tells websites not to sell or share your data, we treat it as an opt-out for that browser.
- Browser settings. You can block or delete cookies in your browser. You can also manage ad preferences in your Meta account settings.
Your California privacy rights
If you live in California, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why we collected it and who we disclosed it to
- Get a copy of your personal information
- Ask us to delete or correct your personal information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information
- Not be treated differently for using these rights
In the past 12 months, the categories of personal information we may have collected are identifiers (such as IP address and cookie IDs), internet activity (such as pages viewed and links clicked), general location inferred from IP address, and, if you emailed us, your email address. We collect them from you and your device, and we use and disclose them for the purposes listed above. We may share identifiers and internet activity with advertising partners for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To make a request, email hello@plainlypicks.com with the subject "Privacy request". We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. We may need to verify your request, and you may use an authorized agent. Many people in other states have similar rights, and we honor these requests from anyone.
How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Server logs are kept by our host according to its own schedule. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle your message, and privacy request records for 24 months, as California law requires.
Children
Plainly Picks is written for adults running businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Our site is served over an encrypted connection (https). No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect and work with reputable providers.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the effective date above.
