Our editorial standards, and how we decide what to recommend.
How we choose what to recommend
We start with the reader's situation, not the product list. For each guide we ask what a small business owner actually needs to get right, then judge products against those needs. For web hosting, that means renewal price, backups, support you can reach, and how easy it is to leave.
We compare the plans a typical small business would buy, using each company's own pricing pages, help center and terms. Where a company does not publish a figure, such as a renewal price, we say so and tell you where to find it.
How we check facts and prices
- Every guide shows the date we last checked prices.
- We use the provider's own published information first, and independent sources only to confirm it.
- We show renewal prices next to first-term prices whenever they are available.
- We review each guide at least every three months, and sooner when a provider changes its plans.
How affiliate links work here
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy, the company may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. This is how the site is funded.
Commissions do not decide our picks or their order. We recommend options that pay us nothing when they are the right answer, and we list who should skip each product we recommend. Each guide has a disclosure near the top, before any affiliate link.
What we will never do
- Accept payment for placement, ranking or a positive review.
- Publish made-up reviews, ratings, testimonials or endorsements.
- Use false urgency such as countdown timers or "only today" claims.
- Claim we tested something we did not test.
Corrections
If you spot an error, an outdated price or a broken link, email hello@plainlypicks.com. We correct factual errors promptly and update the "Updated" date on the guide.
